Howdy to the Amsat India folks.
Congratulations on a sucessful depoyment of
Hamsat. I worked several stations around the
U.S and Canada on the 1800z pass today and it
sounds wonderful. Everyone complimented on the
excellent audio and we all turned down our power
according to your specs on 100 Watts ERP. I ran
3 watts FT-847 to Hygain 20/20 and was almost to
much which shows it is an excellent receiver.

I monitored Hamsat between 2116 - 2130 IST and
again between 2254 - 2304 IST on
06.05.2005.
My equipment comprised of a FT-50RD H.T. and an
Arrow 3el / 7el handheld antenna. Frequency
monitored 145.900 MHz, Mode FM.
During the first pass at around 2120 IST I heard
a station whose prefix started with 9? . Could
not copy the callsign. Then heard VU2POP. His
signals were good. Around 57. Tried to give him
a call on 435.250 MHz FM. There was no response.
This was a pass with Hamsat having a maximum
elevation of 40 degrees at Calcutta. After
hearing VU2POP, heard some faint stations,
barely readable.
During the second pass which had a maximum
elevation of 10 degrees at my end, heard some
weak signals which were barely readable at
around 2300 IST.
Didnot receive any signals on the beacon
frequencies as most of the time I was monitoring
145.900 MHz.
I would be grateful if you could give some
guidelines on FM operation regarding the
Uplink and Downlink frequencies, viz. power /
antenna requirements and whether the beacon
frequencies can be monitored using FM. Regarding
Hamsat access can the same be accessed with the
Arrow crossed yagi.
Did any station receive my call on 435.250 MHZ
via Hamsat ?

Thank you for
all your time and effort put into the new
Hamsat satellite. Today (5-6-05) at 14:43z,
Myself and K3SZH had our first QSO on this
wonderful bird. The audio on the downlink
was very clear and crisp. By the end of the
pass, I had worked K3SZH, VA3DB, K8DID and
K9DID. I am looking forward to many years
and many contacts on this fine bird.
73 and thanks
again,
Robert Palmer Jr. KB2YCC
